past, several munchkins from the original 1939
movie have made appearances at the festival.
Also during October, in Banner Elk NC, the
Woolly Worm Festival is held. The festival pays
tribute to the woolly worm, has plenty of fun,
games, music and food, and also holds woolly
worm races. According to tradition, the worm
that wins the races predicts what the oncoming
winter will be like.
Each year Beech Mountain NC receives larger and
and larger numbers of visitors and the area is
fast becoming a popular destination spot year
round. Autumn is one of the most beautiful times
